The Greenwood Lake Board of Education held their monthly meeting on Thurs., Mar. 22 instead of Wed., Mar. 21, as was originally scheduled, due to a potential snow storm.
During the meeting, Sarah Hadden was appointed as the acting principal for the Elementary School due to the Principal, Maria Boller, taking a leave of absence until the end of the year. Hadden will continue her role as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, and will also take on the role as acting principal until Sat., Jun. 30.
“Greenwood Lake Elementary is a rare gem, a true community school focused on the whole child. We believe that every child deserves to be healthy, safe, supported, engaged, and challenged. During this time of transition, I promise to keep our students at the center in order to ensure a successful last few months of school,” said Hadden.
Several “Meet and Greet” dates have been set up for the upcoming weeks. They are as follows: Tues., Apr. 3 at 2:45 p.m.; Wed., Apr. 4 at 11 a.m.; Fri., Apr. 6 at 9 a.m.; and Wed., Apr. 11 at 5 p.m.
This is a wonderful opportunity for parents/caregivers to meet Hadden. The groups will be kept small in order to provide a true opportunity to really get to know one another. More dates will be added if necessary. Anyone who is interested in attending may contact Kerri Piccirrilo by calling 477-2411, ext. 53301 or by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In other news, the School Board accepted the resignation of School Board member Mary Lally effective immediately. The Board thanked Lally for her service. She was a member from Jul. 2017 to Feb. 2018.
Village Liaison Report
Although Village of Greenwood Lake Trustee Katheleen Holder, who is the Village liaison to the School Board, was not in attendance, in an email she stated that the G.L. Public Library encourages and welcomes school children grades five and above to their Young Adult Room for games, after school to study and to do homework.
PTSA Vice President Patricia Wark, who also was unable to attend the meeting, stated in an email that the PTSA is seeking candidates for two open Board positions next year. She also noted that the Scholastic Book Fair was held last week at the Middle School and was held this week at the Elementary School. Both of these events were a success.
The next PTSA meeting will be held on Thurs., Apr. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Elementary School Cafeteria. The next Bingo Night is planned for Fri., Apr. 13 in the Middle School cafeteria (the time to be announced). Planning has begun for the second Color Run on Sat., May 19. More details to follow.
The next School Board meeting will be held on Wed., Apr. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Elementary School Gymnasium, located at 80 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake NY.
