The Warwick Children’s Book Festival will be held on Sat., Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Railroad Ave. in Warwick. In the event of rain, the Festival will be held at the Warwick Valley Middle School gymnasium, located at 225 West St. in Warwick.
In addition to meeting and purchasing books from about 70 children’s book authors and illustrators, visitors will enjoy the Uncle Brothers children’s concert at 12 p.m., crafts for children, and the opportunity for children to read to therapy dogs.
The Warwick Children’s Book Festival is an annual event presented by the Albert Wisner Public Library. It is sponsored by Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes, generous and longtime benefactors of the Library, and the Village of Warwick, with additional support from the Warwick Valley Farmers’ Market and ShopRite of Warwick.
Illustrator Melissa Iwai & Author Denis Markell
Melissa Iwai has illustrated more than 30 books. She enjoys combining traditional media (watercolor, gouache, India ink, colored pencils, graphite) with digital software (Photoshop, Illustrator.) Her current project is a birthday party book featuring crafts and party food.
Denis Markell, Melissa’s husband and collaborator, is the author of two children’s novels. He is also a playwright, composer, and lyricist, and has written comedy material for Nathan Lane, Brooke Shields, Al Roker, and others. Denis and Melissa live in a Brooklyn apartment with their son, Jamie, and a Shetland Pony named Ronaldo. Or so Denis claims.
