Over a three-day period, this past week I’ve been part of judging for Sullivan Renaissance. Sullivan Renaissance is an eighteen-year-old organization that has been helping to strengthen and beautify Sullivan County. The judging is on many levels, with different categories including garden maintenance beautification, code enforcement, healthy communities, community planning, community partnerships as well as the creation of simple to highly evolved gardens and public spaces.
I have been honored to be part of this group of judges that met with community leaders and volunteer organizations to decide which Town or Village or group has done outstanding work. These projects, sometimes small and sometimes large, are undertakings that take months of preparation and hard work.
The impact of Renaissance as a program has been transformational. It has helped so many communities, large and small, and so many advocacy and beautification groups to attain their goals. Renaissance has created hope and light and a future in Sullivan County towns, villages, and hamlets
This Monday evening will be an awards ceremony. Truly the culmination of the work accomplished by all participants. It’s been great to see the positive involvement that over the years has become contagious amongst the groups and municipalities of Sullivan County. Thank you to Sullivan Renaissance for their vision and ongoing efforts to help Sullivan County re-discover its remarkable self. If you get a chance it’s only a forty-five-minute trip up the highway. Well worth the exploration – a remarkable destination.
