Representatives from Warwick’s American Legion Post 214 and VFW Post 4662 joined Schervier Pavilion residents, families and staff to help celebrate Veteran’s Day, a special event for the residents who proudly served in all branches of military service, many as far back as World War II.
Schervier Pavilion Recreation Director Kari Call thanked all the veterans for their service. She read the 11 names of residents and staff who had served in the military from World War II to recent times, and gave a brief description of their service. Members of the local veterans’ organizations then presented each resident veteran with a Certificate of Appreciation.
Both the visiting and the resident veterans were also invited to tell something about their service. World War II veteran Bernie Cohen, for example, reported that he had served with General George S. Patton’s “Hell on Wheels” 2nd Armored Division in Africa.
At the close of the Veteran’s Day celebration the recreation staff served cake and refreshments. Members of the American Legion and VFW also had an opportunity to swap military stories with the resident veterans.
