The Schevier Pavilion skilled nursing facility and the Mount Alverno Center, both on the Warwick campus of St. Anthony Community Hospital, each celebrated Valentine’s Day on Thurs., Feb. 14.
Schervier Pavilion staff decorated the dining hall with hearts and flowers as family members joined their loved ones to celebrate Valentine’s Day at a “Sweetheart Ball.” In addition to special Valentine’s Day refreshments like strawberry parfaits, residents and their guests were treated to live entertainment by popular singer and guitar player Marty Koppel, whose music encouraged several impromptu sing-alongs. Kari Call, the Director of Recreation, planned the event to share a holiday family tradition.
Residents of Warwick’s Mount Alverno Center Adult Home and Assisted Living Program also gathered in their activities room to celebrate Valentine’s Day. There was a special cake, games, gifts, musical entertainment, and lots of love.
Activities Director Amy Steinberg began the festivities with a series of questions about love and marriage, first addressed to the residents and then followed by the humorous answers to each question previously given by young children.
During the celebration, volunteers Lisa Ciriello and her daughter, Season, distributed Valentines to everyone. Later, Steinberg cut the cake and, along with Recreation Aide Lisa Kevins, distributed a generous piece to everyone. Season Cirello then entertained the group with popular songs and music.
