It is with thankfulness and pride that the local VWF Post 4662 and auxiliary members submit these comments to the greater Warwick community.
Beginning with the “Salute to Veterans” exhibit from Memorial Day until Jul. 7, the entire post, with significant assistance from the Warwick Historical Society and equally as important, and necessary, all the veteran’s families and friends of veteran’s that loaned and/or donated items made the exhibit happen.
The VFW thanks the American Legion for supporting the exhibit, and to the citizens, who are friends and neighbors of the greater Warwick community for visiting the exhibit. The VFW are humbled, proud, and astounded by the response. It has been estimated that several hundred people come to the Buckbee Center. What an amazing gift from everyone to “Welcome the Veterans” home.
The VFW hopes to make this tribute an annual event, in order to demonstrate their respect to all that have served and those that continue to serve. In order to do so, the VFW needs the community to assist them in locating a permanent site in Warwick to house the memorabilia so that the community and its children will bear witness in bringing awareness for the need of supporting Veteran’s causes, Veteran’s rehabilitation, and Veteran’s families. The goal and mission is to have a “Dedicated VFW Post 4662 Outreach Program.”
At the “Salute to Veterans” exhibit there were many volunteers, spearheaded by the VFW Post 4662 Auxiliary, who directed the event. The VFW also thanks the many businesses and personal donors for their monetary contributions, materials, and labor that made the displays accessible to as many visitors as possible.
Several of the local dignitaries and officials, specifically Mayor Michael Newhard, Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, Warwick Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michael Johndrow attended on repeated occasions to honor veterans. All made significantly outstanding comments and presentations to all the citizens that they so ably represent.
To this end, the VFW and auxiliary members extend a most sincere thank you to all.
