Fire Department Trainings
The WFD held the first part of an active shooter incident drill at the Warwick High School auditorium on Mon., Mar. 25. Being prepared is the first step to WFD’s role in the event an incident occurs and the department gets that preparation through training.
WFD would like to thank the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance in the training. The drill was attended by members of the WFD and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from the Town of Warwick, which includes Warwick, Greenwood Lake, Florida, and Pine Island.
The O.C. Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvkdGK2j2Bs&feature=youtu.be and view “Run Fight & Hide,” which was downloaded from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security websites.
The Goodwill Hook & Ladder Company #1 and the Raymond Hose Company #2 held a Firefighter Assist Search Team (FAST) and a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) operational drill on Thurs., Mar. 28. The FAST team is a specially trained group of senior firefighters specifically tasked with removing downed or injured firefighters from a dangerous situation.
WFD Fire Prevention Report
A New York State open burn ban is in effect through Tues., May 14. For more information, visit www.dec.ny.gov.
Now that the warmer weather has arrived, the WFD recommends that residents have their vehicles checked, along with all home appliances. BBQ time is here and it is the time to make sure that your BBQ is as ready as you are for summer. Clean out dryer traps and vents to free them from lint. Have your heating systems cleaned to ensure your water heaters and chimneys are all in working order for continuous operation after this heating season.
