On Tues., Aug. 27, the Town of Warwick held its annual Senior BBQ to honor the senior citizens in the community. The free afternoon at the Warwick Town Park found more than 100 folks relaxing under large white tents, enjoying good music and lively conversation.
Attendees feasted on hot dogs for lunch, and then a full BBQ chicken dinner, prepared by local chef Mike Coleman of Mike’s Custom BBQ, and served up by local law enforcement members and municipal officials, including Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard, and Town of Warwick Councilmen James Gerstner and Russ Kowal.
“It was a great day, and it serves as a big thank you to our seniors who have done so much to make this a great town,” said Supervisor Sweeton.
“Beautiful late summer skies were the perfect backdrop for a wonderful annual event. This well orchestrated picnic truly celebrates our seniors. The combination of volunteers, elected officials, local organizations and businesses helping to serve is a meaningful elixir of service and fun. Kudos to Mike Sweeton and his staff who orchestrate one of the best events of the year,” added Mayor Newhard.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy’s K-9 unit was also on hand to demonstrate the dog’s training and abilities.
