Holiday Safety Tips & Recommendations
The WFD Fire Prevention Team offers the following guidelines for the holidays: make sure your family Christmas tree is watered frequently kept away from any heat source fire place heaters, etc. and do not overload electrical outlets or use lights that have frayed or exposed wires.
The WFD Fire Prevention Team offers the following recommendations: check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, have residential boilers or home heating systems including chimneys cleaned to ensure systems are in working order, have house numbers easily visible at the mailbox or on the front of the residence, do not run vehicles in or next to your garage to avoid a Carbon Monoxide Emergency, and keep up with the maintenance of all vehicles.
For more safety tips visit the WFD Facebook site or visit www.NFPA.org to find family fire safety games from Sparky the Fire Dog.
Watch for First Responders
The WFD requests that the members of the community continue to watch for first responders utilizing personal vehicles responding to emergencies. When you see a blue light for a firefighter or a green light for emergency medical personnel, safely pull off to the shoulder of the road to let them pass.
