Story by Lourice Angie
Frank Truatt, the owner WTBQ Radio at 1110 AM/93.5FM in Warwick, and station manager Taylor Sterling launched the annual “Share the Warmth” Orange County Coat and Clothes Drive on Mon., Sept. 24. The drive will continue through Mon., Oct 29 and will benefit the non-profit organization HONOR (Helping Others Needing Our Resources).
This organization is committed to helping others in need by providing a multitude of services and resources. Their staff is dedicated to treating each and every client with honor, compassion, dignity, and respect. According to a study from the National Center on Family Homelessness, it is estimated that about one in 30 American children or about 2.5 million kids are currently homeless. Just over half are younger than six years old.
Help Share the Warmth
The annual initiative was launched Truatt and Sterling when Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus gave them the idea after traveling upstate and witnessing children without coats.
It’s hard to imagine or even process the thought of any person, especially a child, left to face the brutally cold winter months without a proper coat or warm clothes. WTBQ and County Executive Neuhaus invite anyone who is able to help share the warmth and donate new or used coats, gloves, hats, sweaters, and clothes for persons of any age or gender and help homeless families in the community stay warm this winter.
All coat and clothing donations can be dropped off in Warwick at WTBQ radio station, located at 179 Sanfordville Rd. in Warwick or at the offices of the Warwick Valley Dispatch, a family-owned hometown newspaper in Warwick since 1885. The offices are located at 2 Oakland Ave., in the heart of the Village of Warwick. Additional drop off sites are at CuraLeaf, located at 8 N. Plank Rd. in Newburgh, NY and the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, located at 30 Scotts Corners Dr., Ste. 203 in Montgomery, NY.
