Warwick NY – This week in Warwick High School sports, the girls’ varsity basketball team managed to maintain their impressive winning streak, defeating Washingtonville in a Division 2 win. The Wildcats now have an 18-0 record for this varsity season. Senior Lauren Desrats scored 20 points this time around. The final score of the game was Warwick, 54-48.
Skiers Win Races
With winter quickly coming to a close, Warwick skiers Simone Sullivan, a freshman, and Matt Hansen, a junior, both won in their races, solidifying two Division 2 wins for the ski team. They both clinched a spot to compete in the State Championships at Bristol Mountain later this month. Qualifying team members will compete at Section IX Championships at Hunter Mountain this week and hope to send additional athletes to States.
The varsity ski racing team dominated the slopes this year. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams went undefeated this season and have an ongoing winning streak as number one in their division going back as far as 2007 or more.
The boys’ team includes Vaughnn Poehlmann, a senior; and freshmen – Christopher Hansen and Dan Keneally. The girls’ team includes juniors – Natalie Paraschiv, Tristen Bieling and Georgia Krasneiwicz; Julie Priebke, a freshman; and Claire Priebke, a seventh grader.
Wrestling Team Comes in Fourth Place
In the Section IX Championships for wrestling, the Wildcats finished in fourth place. Wrestlers Drew Greco and Andrew Wierzbicki both accomplished a fourth place title in their respective weight classes and teammates Will Noteboom and Vincent Carney both acquired a fifth place title in their own weight classes. Warwick’s final overall score for the Championship stands at 127.5.
Pole Vaulters Triumph at Championship Meet
The OCL Championships for indoor track and field resulted in championships for Kaeli Thompson and Dan Sorensen, both pole vaulters. Thomas Gardiner won in the 1k event and earned second place in the 1,600 meter event, while Katherine Smith landed in second place at the girls’ 1k event.
