As the spring 2018 athletic season at Warwick Valley High School begins, the athletes continue to push through the cold. The girls’ varsity softball team had their first scrimmage against Vernon this past week. The chilling temperatures did not slow down the team, who are scheduled to play against Kingston on Thurs., Apr. 5 at home in Warwick NY. Seniors Mendenhall, Wilson and Mass will lead this team with high expectations from fans and coaches alike.
Lacrosse has begun as well. This sport took a foothold in Warwick about 10 years ago. Fast paced, akin to hockey and football in terms of physicality, lacrosse is for those who don’t mind scraping knees and knocking helmets. This week, the boys’ team beat Suffern in their season opener and, while playing well, fell short in the long run. The junior varsity girls’ team played an exciting game against Vernon in their second scrimmage of the season.
Recognized at the girls’ basketball banquet held recently in Warwick were the varsity and modified Lady Wildcats. Both of these teams had extremely impressive, well played seasons. The girls’ varsity team was recognized for their season of 20 and two. The team was led by Coach O’Brien. The modified girls’ team went undefeated, a noteworthy feat.
