Mayor Harter: Observe Winter Parking & Speeding Limits in the Village

Local News News & Updates

Hello Florida,

With the weather being as cold as it has been, it is more than likely we will see snow on the way very soon. Please be aware from Fri., Nov. 15 to Mon., Mar. 31 there is no parking on Village streets between the hours of 1 a.m. until 6 a.m. This is to allow the DPW to clear our roads of snow with no obstacles while they perform their duties.  If you have sidewalks in front of your house please keep them clear of snow and debris during the winter; many people use them for exercising, walking home from school or just enjoying the sights and sounds of our Village, so please keep them clear.

And finally, I’d like to mention that if you are driving through the Village, please slow down. Speeding is an epidemic, not just for our Village, but the entire area. We have several narrow roads that many of your neighbors and friends walk. Our roads were not designed for the increased size of today’s vehicles and along with speeding is a recipe for disaster. If we all just took our time and followed the speed limit, we would resolve many of the conflicts between pedestrians and drivers.

The above column, written by Village of Florida Mayor Daniel Harter, Jr., has been published in the Nov. 20 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
