Supervisor Sweeton: Reminder of Warwick Transit Services

Local News News & Updates

We want to remind residents of Warwick Transit (Dial-A-Bus), which services the entire Town of Warwick, including the Villages of Warwick and Florida, Pine Island and Greenwood Lake, with the most popular destinations being ShopRite, Price Chopper, St. Anthony Community Hospital, CVS, Main Street in the Village of Warwick and Florida, many doctors’ offices and the Senior Center in Warwick. Dial-A-Bus requires reservations which can be made by calling 986-2877, Monday–Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Along with local service, Warwick Transit provides transportation to Middletown, Monroe and Goshen.  For further information, go to the Town of Warwick website, www.townofwarwick.org, under Residents – Dial-A-Bus/Transit, or call Warwick Transit directly at 986-2877.

The Town of Warwick Friendly Visitor Program is committed to supporting our residents by helping them remain in their homes. They do this by matching local volunteers with residents that need support.  The volunteers make a difference by providing transportation to local appointments (volunteers will escort you to appointments), help with grocery shopping, chatting on the phone, home visits, playing a game, reading, and clerical assistance. There is no charge for the service. Services are offered to older adults and adults with disabilities in the Town of Warwick, Village of Warwick, Village of Greenwood Lake, Village of Florida and Pine Island.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or are in need of receiving services, call 986-1124 (listen for prompt for Friendly Visitor Program) or email fvp@townofwarwick.org.

The AARP Foundation Tax- Aide program and Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition offers free tax preparation assistance to low to moderate income individuals, families and seniors. There are many sites throughout the county offering this free service. There are no age restrictions and AARP membership is not required.  Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available.  To schedule an appointment, call United Way’s Help Line, 2-1-1 or 1(800) 899-1479. Calls are accepted seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Our Country is embarking on the very important task of conducting the 2020 census.  Accurate counts of our citizens is crucial to ensure we receive back to us our fair share of taxes we send the Federal government.  It will also determine our representation in Congress.  If you would like to help by being a census worker, please call 1-855-JOB-2020 to sign up.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Mar. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, located at 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick.

The above column, written by Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, has been published in the Mar. 4 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
