Announces Candidacy for Greenwood Lake School Board

Letters to the Editor News & Updates

Editor,

I am a candidate seeking a position on the Greenwood Lake Board of Education.  I am a lifelong Greenwood Lake resident. I am a proud graduate of Greenwood Lake schools and George F. Baker, Tuxedo, High School.  My wife, Beth, and I have two children, Matthew and Geraldine.  My parents, Dennis and Geraldine Buckley, raised their eight children around the corner from my current home. I am a retired General Forman of Local 580 Ironworkers.

Most of you might know me as Coach Matt from the Greenwood Lake Little League, as I coached for over 15 years.  As my son aged out of the league, I retired as its President and now plan to coach my daughter in the girls’ softball league. Our children also play for the Greenwood Lake Soccer Club.  My family and I are active members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  I am a member of the Elks Lodge 2067 and the American Legion Sons of the Legion.

Additionally, I am the Vice President of the Greenwood Lake Gaelic Cultural Society, an organization for which I also served as President and on the entertainment committee. I am also the Gaelic Cultural Society’s delegate to the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and serve as Chairman of its Grand Marshal Breakfast.

My wife and I are passionate about our community, in addition to our children participating in the sports clubs, we support local charities and residents in many events and fundraising. Supporting our children as a member of the Board of Education is a role I have been considering for some time.

I am compelled to “throw my hat in the ring” now because I feel strongly about developing a plan to support our students during this turbulent time.  I believe my experience working with the boards of the Greenwood Lake Little League and the Gaelic Cultural Society make me a strong candidate.

I promise that with your vote, I will base my decisions on facts, logic, fiscal responsibility, and most importantly what is best for our children.

MATHEW BUCKLEY
