Supervisor Sweeton: A Different Memorial Day

News & Updates

For Town information log on to www.townofwarwick.org  or tune to Cablevision Municipal Channel 21.

Memorial Day 2020 is different this year, but the ultimate sacrifice by our military from 1776 to the present seems even more meaningful as our Country faces a new challenge.  The courage displayed by those who fought and died for our Nation should be an inspiration for all of us to carry on, do our part and build a better, stronger America.

One of the critical metrics Orange County must have to reopen is an ample number of contact tracers.  This work can be done from home and simply requires calls to those identified by someone who tested positive for COVID-19.  Visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/get-involved-how-you-can-help.

St. Anthony’s, a Bon Secour Hospital, is once again open for elective surgeries. They are currently prioritizing any that were curtailed due to the COVID-19 response, however now is the time to contact your doctor to make sure you get scheduled to take care of any medical issues you have postponed.  I was part of a call with Dr. Janowski and hospital administrator Anita Volpe who reported that the hospital is well staffed, has ample personnel protective equipment, no COVID patients and stands ready to provide the excellent care they have always provided our community.

Due to the limitations placed on the Town from NYS as a result of the coronavirus pandemic as well as a $500,000 shortfall in sales tax revenues to the Town budget, the following changes to will be in effect for the rest of 2020:

The Town Beach at the Thomas P. Morahan Beach will open tentatively on June 6, seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Warwick Town residents only (this of course includes Florida, Greenwood Lake and Warwick Village residents). The Beach area will be limited to 50% occupancy initially while the Town and Village monitor how beachgoers observe our social gathering regulations. Season passes can be obtained from the Warwick Town Clerk by calling 986-1124.

In consultation with the Mayors of Florida, Greenwood Lake, Warwick and the Pine Island recreation committee all summer recreation programs have been cancelled for this season.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board, as per Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 202.1, will be closed to the public but can be viewed live via the Zoom app on Thurs., May 28 at 7:30 p.m. A link to the meeting will be placed in our official newspaper, the Warwick Valley Dispatch, and on www.townofwarwick.org.  All future meetings will be conducted in this manner until the Governor’s order is lifted.
