Ongoing through until Sun., Nov. 29, the GWL Skatepark Corp. is hosting their “3rd Annual DoItForDale! Skateboard Art Auction.” Artists throughout the area have painted and designed on over 80 blank skateboard decks, then donated their creations to be auctioned off in a continued effort to raise funds for the construction of a professional concrete flowpark-style skatepark in Greenwood Lake.
Previous auctions were live events with food, drinks, entertainment, and in-person bidding. However, due to gathering restrictions and a general effort to keep supporters safe during this pandemic, a partnership was formed with Merchant’s Wares, a local auction company, to host this year’s bidding online at http://bit.ly/34YLY9g.
GWL Skatepark Corp. to-date has raised over $62,000 through grassroots events, donations and merchandise sales, and they are currently in the process of finalizing an NYSAM grant in the amount of $100,000 which will take them past the halfway mark of their $300,000 goal. GWL Skatepark will be built in memory of Dale Hirrel, the Greenwood Lake teenager tragically killed in April of 2016. Dale Hirrel was a popular local youth who loved skateboarding and always dreamed of having a park in his local town, and GWL Skatepark Corp.’s objective is to make that dream a reality and keep the memory of Dale alive.
GWL Skatepark Corp. is a fully registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to raising the necessary funds and building the proposed GWL Skatepark in Memory of Dale Hirrel, which will provide a safe, fun and controlled environment for skateboarding, inline skating, scootering, and/or BMX riders of all ages to practice their sport and socialize with like-minded enthusiasts and their families.
