New York is Making Progress on the Environment

Letters to the Editor News & Updates

Editor,

There is good news.  In 2019, New York passed the most progressive climate legislation in the country. CLCPA (Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act) provides a path to a clean energy future. Now, we need to fund it by passing CCIA (The Climate and Community Investment Act) so by 2050 we will have zero greenhouse gas emissions and scores of new industries providing thousands of good paying jobs.

The fossil fuel industry still wants to make big profits, sacrificing our health and security. Beware when their million-dollar disinformation campaigns say gas (which is only “natural” when left in the ground) is a bridge fuel. Bridges last a long time. Putting fossil fuels in the atmosphere destabilizes the planet, resulting in more frequent and intense climatic catastrophes.

But, also beware of other false solutions: biofuels; biomethane (renewable “natural” gas); green hydrogen; and waste to energy or incineration continue putting pollutants into the air and our bodies.

Burn with excitement for a green future; don’t burn away the future with dirty fossil fuels and imposters pretending to be green.

GAIL BUCKLAND
