Student Artwork Featured in Warwick Historical Society Events

Local News News & Updates

The Warwick Historical Society (WHS) works closely with a talented group of teens from throughout the Town of Warwick. The students and society members get together monthly to tour historic properties, clear Revolutionary War cemeteries, and get up close and personal with Warwick’s past.

Two of the student board members recently created artwork that help bring history to life and to accompany some WHS upcoming events.

The WHS is preparing for its inaugural George Washington Day 5K on Sat., July 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m., running through the Village of Warwick beginning and ending at Memorial Park. Student board member Hanna Ali painted a delightful image of George Washington, kicking up mud with his hat flying from his head, that will be featured on the t-shirt and posters for the event. Hanna captured the spirit of the event with her fun depiction and innate talent.

The GW Day 5K registration is now open and costs $25 to participate. Go to www.whsny.org or call 986-3236 for registration information.

Finding George and Martha

The next time you tour one of the WHS historic properties, look for the images of George and Martha Washington, our nation’s first President and First Lady. Student board member Season Ciriello created the silhouettes of the famous couple that will be “hidden” in the historic properties of the WHS for children and adults to enjoy in an immersive hands-on-history experience. As George and Martha were known to have spent time in Warwick, we are certain they would be thrilled to enjoy this distinction.

The WHS student board meets on the first Monday of the month, and the group enjoys learning about the many facets of local history. All local teens are invited to join at no cost.
