That’s a Wrap

People tell you, “it is not over until the fat lady sings.” Well, I’m not a lady, but I am singing for all Giants fans out there. The season is over, it is time to plan your vacations for January, and please go somewhere warm. The Giants sit at 2-7 thanks to a 30-6 drubbing they took at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. Antonio Pierce, former Giants LB and key force for the 2007 Super Bowl-winning defense, was coaching his 1st game as the interim Head Coach on Sunday. The Giants were getting QB Daniel Jones, LT Andrew Thomas, and RT Evan Neal back and healthy from their recent injuries. They have battled and should have won 3-in-a-row over the Bills, Commanders, and Jets. However, it was simple, had they won the remainder of their winnable games, they would likely reach the playoffs or be in the hunt. Those dreams and thoughts are done. QB Daniel Jones suffered a torn ACL in the game, meaning he will be out the remainder of this year, and depending on how quickly he recovers, he could miss half the season in 2024. Now, the team that needed every break to go their way to see success this season has the biggest domino collapse. No matter what you say about Daniel Jones, love or hate him, he was the Giants best chance to do anything successful this season and now he is gone. Tommy DeVito showed why Brian Daboll did not let him throw the previous week against the Jets. The defense was soft against the run. Darius Slayton had a drop of his turn into a deflected interception. When it rains, it pours. The good news for fans is they can start the draft simulator sooner and ticket prices should see a steep decline which is important for people like me who are attending the game on New Year’s Eve against the Rams. The organization now has some difficult decisions to come based on the finish to the year for this team. If they have a Top 5 pick, do they select a QB? Which one should they take? These are questions we have, from now until the pick is made in April, to discuss, debate, and decide on. They could decide to play the waiting game with Jones. There is no simple answer to what the Giants should do, but Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will get the opportunity to fix this and build a team they are happy with. Plenty of guys on the roster will be playing their final weeks in a Giants uniform. Some are fighting for new, big money contracts this offseason. It is going a be a somber finish to the season for Big Blue.
