Paul Arteta Reflects on His First Year as Orange County Sheriff
“Has the role of Sheriff been what you anticipated it would be?”
It’s everything and more. After a career spanning 28 years at the Sheriff’s Office, I couldn’t be happier overseeing such professional staff. I have surrounded myself with many seasoned professionals who take great pride in their work and have helped me towards achieving my vision for the office.
“Which significant campaign promise have you successfully delivered on during your first year in office?”
Collaboration. During my campaign I envisioned a Sheriff’s Office that collaborated with the vast number of law enforcement agencies throughout the county enriching our capabilities to serve our communities better. In my first year we have done a complete makeover of our firearms range providing a professional resource for my office, our County’s law enforcement agencies and the Police Academy. We collaborated throughout my first year with not only our local law enforcement but with our Federal and State partners concentrating on addressing the safety and security of our communities.
“What is one objective that you have set for yourself as you move forward into 2024?”
I have my sights set on many goals this year and narrowing it down to one is tricky. One of my top goals is to have my Civil Division accredited for the first time in the history of the Sheriff’s Office. We have already initiated the process and should be fully accredited by the end of this year.
