A USA-Sanctioned boxing event with 12 bouts of three-rounds a piece will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 4:00-6:30 PM at the Greenwood Lake Middle School, 1247 Lakes Road, Monroe, NY 10950, as part of the ongoing series of events to mark the 100th Anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of Greenwood Lake.

USA Boxing members feature locally prominent boxers – both men and women – from communities throughout the Hudson Valley and who compete regularly in the competitive USA Boxing circuit that includes 2024 Olympic Games World Qualification Tournament 2, May 26, 2024 – Jun 2, 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand; 24 National Junior Olympics and Summer Festival in Jun 22, 2024 – Jun 29, 2024, Wichita, KS; 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Jul 26, 2024 – Aug 11, 2024, Paris, France.

This weekend’s event is an homage to Greenwood Lake’s history as a major training camp for prominent professional boxers in the 1930s-40s-and 50s who worked out under expert trainers, conditioning them to compete in world class championship events and in the Olympics: boxers like Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Rocky Marciano, Rocky Graziano, Floyd Patterson, and many others who practiced at the Joe Murchio camp (later renamed The Long Pond training camp).

There will be VIP tickets for tables at ringside, general admission tickets, and even a DJ who will provide music before and after each bout to entertain the crowd. DJ Tony B, a professional Ringwood, NJ based disc jockey, has performed for a number of organizations and occasions throughout the region. And several notable restaurants are providing an enhanced menu, with gourmet entrées and side dishes for the VIP tables, including Prime 36, the Italian steakhouse; Grappa Restaurant, the award-winning Warwick restaurant; Ana Restaurant, featuring Chef Leo Ruqiki; Chef Greg Kyritsis of Galloway Grill; and the accomplished baker, Stacy Congdon, of Greenwood Lake Garden and Farm Market, who will supply several loaves of fresh baked bread. General admission ticket-holders will be able to purchase hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, and French fries, with the beverage of their choice, plus snacks and dessert.

USA Boxing is a firm believer in the impact that boxing can have upon youth, where coaches teach respect and confidence before the first jab is thrown, providing a positive atmosphere for channeling aggression and anger into a force for good.
