WARWICK, NY A 30-year-old woman is recovering from multiple stab wounds after a violent assault took place in a residential neighborhood on Helene Road late Wednesday evening, June 19. Thanks to her quick thinking and determination, the victim was able to identify her attacker and provide police with a location, leading to the swift arrest of a suspect just blocks from the crime scene.

According to the Town of Warwick Police Department, officers were dispatched to Helene Road at approximately 9:18 p.m. following a 911 call reporting an assault. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers immediately rendered first aid while securing the area and gathering initial witness statements.

Despite her serious injuries, the victim was able to tell police the name of her attacker and direct them to a nearby address where the suspect could be found. She was subsequently transported to Garnett Health Medical Center in Middletown, where she was treated for injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening.

Police quickly located and detained the suspect, Emerly Hernandez, age 24, who also resides on Helene Road. Hernandez was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Town of Warwick Police Department for processing.

Following an initial investigation, Hernandez was formally charged with:

  • Assault in the first degree, a Class B felony, and

  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

The case is now under active investigation by the Warwick Police Department’s Detective Unit, though early indications suggest the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Hernandez was arraigned before a local judge and remanded to Orange County Jail, with bail set at $25,000 cash or $100,000 bond. No attorney information was available at the time of publication.

The Warwick Police Department has not indicated whether any additional charges may be forthcoming, pending the results of ongoing interviews and forensic analysis.

The attack has shocked residents of the normally quiet Helene Road neighborhood, prompting concern about public safety and domestic violence awareness.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Warwick Police Department Detective Division at (845) 986-5000.
