Around the County

News & Updates

Orange County has no shortage of great places to eat, and I’ve had the pleasure of visiting a few recently, from Pine Island to Middletown. There are fabulous cafes, delis, coffee shops, and restaurants all around the County. Not only do they bring unique flavor to the communities they’re in, but they are also part of the backbone of our County. When we support local businesses, we’re not just buying a meal or a service, we are helping to strengthen our economy and preserve the businesses that add character and make Orange County so special. So, the next time you step out for a bite to eat, consider that local stop that might be owned by a neighbor or family nearby.

Just as it’s important to invest in local businesses, it’s imperative to invest in our shared future through projects such as the transformation of Camp LaGuardia. Plans are already underway to turn this site into Orange County’s newest park. This will be a place where families can play, and residents can enjoy the outdoors for generations to come. To see the full vision and hear more about what’s happening next in this exciting project, I encourage you to watch the latest “Blueprint Orange” video on OrangeCountyGov.com, Facebook, or the Orange County Government YouTube Channel. There’s some great information that I’m eager to share with you!

I am a grateful supporter of our volunteer firefighters. They are another backbone of our community! I had the privilege of thanking the Sugar Loaf Engine Company for all that they do to keep our communities safe at their annual Oktoberfest. I also got to stop by Mombasha Fire Company to help prepare for the Orange County Volunteer Firemen’s Association’s 110th Annual Parade and Convention. The Parade is this Saturday, September 27th in Monroe. Come on out and support your neighbors who put so much of their time and energy into keeping you and your loved ones safe!

These moments brought back memories of my own time as a volunteer with Monroe-Lakeside Fire and Rescue and reminded me of the countless hours our firefighters devote to keeping our communities safe. They need and deserve our support, whether by attending fundraisers, volunteering, or simply cheering them on at the upcoming parade. Their service is a tradition worth honoring and sustaining.

Speaking of honors, last week I was able to participate in an event that I am always proud and moved to be a part of – the naturalization ceremony hosted by County Clerk Kelly Eskew and her team. Welcoming new Americans is an inspirational experience that highlights the strength of our country and the promise of opportunity. It was a privilege to stand with them as they took this important step, joining our community and our nation.

That same sense of pride carries through at local celebrations, from events like the Chester Kiwanis’ 50th anniversary, the many ribbon cuttings for new businesses, to Eagle Scout and Gold Award ceremonies. Events like these bring us together and remind us of the bonds we share as neighbors.

Whether it’s enjoying a meal at a local family restaurant you haven’t tried, supporting our volunteer firefighters and first responders, or celebrating milestones in our communities, Orange County continues to thrive because of the people who call it home.

As we move into autumn, I look forward to seeing you Around the County, enjoying all that our great County has to offer this beautiful time of year!
