Dave Fulford Previously Pled Guilty to Attempted Assault in the First Degree
Orange County District Attorney announced that Dave Fulford, 21, of Newburgh, was sentenced in Orange County Court to six (6) years in prison to be followed by five (5) years of post-release supervision relative to his guilty plea to Attempted Assault in the First Degree.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, on September 3, 2025 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Fulford ran up to a man from behind on Van Ness Street in the City of Newburgh and slashed the man once on the face with a sharp object. As a result, the victim sustained a large laceration that required stitches. Fulford later admitted to the police that he slashed the victim. At the plea proceedings, Fulford admitted to attempting to cause serious physical injury to the victim by means of a dangerous instrument.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Newburgh Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of Fulford.
“Violent offenders need to be held accountable for their crimes,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “This defendant’s behavior constituted life altering acts of violence. The thorough investigation completed by police in this case ensured that this defendant was brought to justice. Our community is safer with this violent offender incarcerated under the terms of the sentence imposed by the court.”
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Kelle Grimmer.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation by the police that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
