Gurvich, Damia Elected to Albert Wisner Public Library Board

Letters to the Editor News & Updates

Editor,

This year’s Library Vote, which was held by mail in ballot with the annual WVCSD budget vote, was for two Library Board positions. In the early days of New York State’s coronavirus shutdown, the Library Board decided not to ask for any increase in the operating budget support.

Nora Aman-Gurvich received 4,750 votes and was re-elected to another five-year term.  Mark Damia was elected to a new five-year term with 4,636 votes replacing Joan Noonan who decided to retire from 25 years of service on the Library Board.

Joan has been a part of the historic changes made at our Library and will be missed by all of us.  We welcome the chance to continue working with Nora who, as Executive Director of the Warwick Historical Society, adds that role to the many talents she brings to her service for the Library. We also enthusiastically welcome Mark Damia, a 35-year Warwick resident with over 40 years management experience in information technology to the Board. Mark is a new face to our governing board, but one with a long history of active community involvement.

As we all navigate this COVID-19 era and face the challenges of providing service, all of us at the Library are grateful for our supportive community and the outstanding members, past and present, of our Library Board.  I want to thank Jennifer Bengel and others at WCSD who helped us manage the logistics of our vote this year.  Each year, they professionally shepherd us through this important process.  However, this year the unprecedented circumstances created numerous logistical challenges and they continued to be steady, calm and competent partners from beginning to end.

The Library is currently providing curbside service and looking forward to slowly and safely expanding access to our collections, services and programs.  Up to date details are at www.albertwisnerlibray.org.
