The Village of Greenwood Lake Board of Trustees held their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Mon., Feb. 22.  Due to the ongoing COVID-19 guidelines, the meeting was held virtually via Zoom.

One of the ultimate goals of the Village was to take over and handle all operations of the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park and Beach. Greenwood Lake Mayor Jesse Dwyer contacted Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton to discuss details of transferring management and lease rights of the park to the Village.  These details were also reviewed by all members of the Board.

The decision to move forward with the transfer has been agreed upon.  The agreement includes a lease which includes a five-year contract that will be automatically renewed; there are no costs associated with it since the Village is not buying property. The Town of Warwick will still own the property.

The entire Village Board will be involved in the process. Once the necessary documentation has been completed between the Town and the Village, future plans and details will be discussed at the general upcoming Board meetings. The Village will continue to ensure that Town residents are offered the same services at the same price as Village residents.

“We expect to continue a model favoring Town residents access to the beach and limiting non-residents so those who live and pay taxes in our community continue to have priority access. Hotels, Air BNBs, traditional Bed & Breakfasts and similar will be considered ‘residents’ and will be offered resident access to the park like previous years,” said Mayor Jesse Dwyer.

New Scoreboard in Honor of Jeff Hart

Also, during the meeting, Mayor Dwyer said that for many years the scoreboard located at the Lions Field has been in disrepair. The Little League recently received funding after the heartbreaking passing of longtime Greenwood Lake resident, coach and active community member, Jeff Hart. The Hart family had requested that in lieu of flowers for the funeral people donate to the G.L. Little League. The Mayor says that the Village will match the amount of funds raised and support the reconstruction of the new scoreboard in honor of Jeff Hart.

G.L. Little league Registration

Trustee Katheleen Holder reported that the Little League registration is now open. Due to ongoing concerns of COVID-19, any questions regarding specific dates and or restrictions will be handled as the information becomes available. To register, visit www.gwllittleleague.com.
