New York Agriculture in the Classroom’s 17th Annual New York Agricultural Literacy Week will be held from Mon., Mar. 15 through Fri., Mar. 19. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County volunteers will work with educators to organize virtual experiences with classrooms. The readers are flexible and other dates can be arranged. There is no cost for this program.

This year’s book is “Chuck’s Ice Cream Wish (Tales of the Dairy Godmother)” by Viola Butler. The book takes students on a journey to learn about dairy, the source of the food on their plate – the farmer, and showcases the diversity of the agriculture industry.

The book is appropriate for kindergarten through third grade students and is targeted to a second-grade reading level. Orange County, NY educators can make arrangements to receive a copy the book and/or a volunteer reader by contacting Susan D’Egidio at Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County by calling (845) 344-1234 (ext. 240) or send an email to smd348@cornell.edu.
