WVHS Drama Club Presents Songs for a New World

Local News News & Updates

The Warwick Valley High School Drama Club is thrilled to present their first-ever virtual musical on the weekend of Apr. 30 – May 2.

Jason Robert Brown’s Songs for a New World, a dynamic and poignant contemporary American musical about life’s everyday events, has been beautifully captured on video for streaming this weekend. Videotaped in the high school’s television studio, the cast, comprised of over 30 students, will present the show’s fifteen songs along with accompanying narration in a virtual format. The video makes use of multiple camera angles, green screens and digital backgrounds, while still remaining faithful to a live theatrical production’s use of sets, props and costumes.

“This has been an incredible undertaking during a difficult time, but the creative team, the students and I are excited to present this production to the Warwick community,” stated club advisor and director Nick DiLeo.

Recently the cast filmed the opening number out on the front lawn of the high school with a full production crew in attendance, complete with a drone for overhead shots. The cast is enthusiastic about this year’s show despite the unusual circumstances.

“It was albeit a very different experience but being able to perform in Songs for a New World was an amazing time! The show works beautifully in the virtual format and I’m really excited to be able to share our hard work over the vast new medium of performance streaming,” said senior cast member Ellie Hanson.

The production will be streamed via the online website Showtix4U from 12 noon on Fri., Apr. 30 through 8 p.m. on Sun., May 2. The cost for an all-access pass to view the production is $25, and the link to view the show can be found on the WVCSD website, www.warwickvalleyschools.com.

The community has always been supportive of the Drama Club over the years, and they are asking everyone to purchase tickets this year more than any other year to help support the club after last year’s limited attendance.
