Heroic Teamwork Saves Warwick Firefighter: Christmas Miracle on Jones Road

Local News News & Updates

Reported by Chief Michael Contaxis, Chief of Department, Warwick Fire District, WFD

On Saturday evening December 16, 2023 at approximately 1720hrs the Warwick Fire Department was dispatched to reported residential house fire on Jones Road in the Warwick Fire District section in the Town of Warwick. While enroute responding units were advised that the fire was coming out of a second floor window. A second alarm was transmitted for mutual aid assistance from assisting area Fire Departments.  The fire was knocked down by initial responding units.  Units on scene performed extensive overhaul of the residence. As firefighters were finishing interior operations and releasing our Mutual Aid Assistance one of our Warwick Fire Company Safety Officers, Andrew Schork, 64 years of age from the Excelsior Hose Company #1 collapsed due to a medical emergency.  Life Saving Measures were completed immediately by our Mutual Aid Firefighters and Warwick Firefighters on the scene.  Safety Officer Schork was revived with the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Safety Officer Schork regained consciousness and began breathing on his own.  Safety Officer Schork was turned over to Warwick EMS for transport to Garnet Medical Center in Middletown.  Safety Officer Schork underwent a medical procedure and has since been released to return home to recover with his family for the Christmas Holidays.  The Warwick Fire Department would like to thank our Mutual Aid Fire Departments, the Goshen Fire Department Firefighter Assist Search Team (FAST) the Warwick Police Department, Warwick EMS, Empress Medical Services, Garnet Medical Center and to our Warwick Firefighters at the scene.  Without the fast acting life saving efforts of all involved Safety Officer Schork would not be here today.
