Steven Wolfe Previously Pled Guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Monday, June 1, 2026, Steven Wolfe, 30, of Newburgh, was sentenced in Orange County Court to an aggregate term of nine (9) years in prison to be followed by five (5) years of post-release supervision relative to his previous guilty pleas to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, on October 16, 2025 at approximately 5:55 a.m., the City of Newburgh Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at a location near Crystal Lake. Upon arrival, officers observed a car driving from the location. When the police pulled the car over, they observed a loaded .45 caliber pistol on the driver’s seat near Wolfe. The police later recovered a quantity of crack cocaine and U.S. currency from Wolfe. Inside the vehicle was additional cocaine, narcotics packaging material and more currency. At the plea proceedings, Wolfe admitted to possessing the loaded firearm and to attempting to possess cocaine with the intent to sell it.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Newburgh Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of the defendant.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Cassidy Turi.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
