October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness about the profound impact of domestic violence and promoting the resources available to those affected. Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior used by one individual to establish and maintain power and control over their intimate partner. It can take various forms, including not only physical abuse but also emotional, financial, and technological abuse. Recognizing these signs is crucial, and it’s never too late to seek services and support.
Ongoing awareness and prevention efforts are essential in addressing domestic violence. We have various resources available and collaborate continuously with our partners at Fearless! Hudson Valley to educate, assist, and empower those suffering from intimate partner violence.
Currently, we have the only STRIVE (Statewide Targeted Reduction in Intimate Partner Violence) investigator in the county. This position was created to support high-risk victims and connect them with additional services. Our investigator works closely with Fearless! Hudson Valley, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Town of New Windsor Police Department, the City of Newburgh Police Department, and the City of Middletown Police Department. Together, we identify high-risk victims, assist in prosecuting these cases, and connect them with additional services. While we focus on agencies with the highest reported domestic violence calls, our STRIVE Investigator is available to assist any agency that needs our expertise and resources.
Domestic violence affects individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and communities. Help and support are available.
