Mayor Harter: The True Meaning of Christmas

News & Updates

The holiday season is here and it will be one like no other in our lifetime. As COVID-19 is a reality that we all must continue to endure, the true meaning of Christmas really comes to mind – giving to others. The Village has several great options for those who wish to help others this year. Our local food pantry at the Florida Presbyterian Church is always looking for donations and volunteers to help those in need due to the substantial increase of people needing assistance from the pandemic. Our Florida Fire Department is working with the Chester Fire Department and have set up a Toys for Tots drop off location by their door near the parking lot which is checked daily. Bring a new unwrapped toy by Mon., Dec. 14 and they will deliver it the Newburgh Armory for children this Christmas; help bring some cheer to a child this year.

The Village is also doing many of its traditional events this holiday season albeit some changes due to the pandemic. Our tree lighting will take place on Fri., Dec. 4 at sunset. The tree in front of the Presbyterian Church by the rock wall will once again be the Village tree as it was many years ago before it was moved to the front of Village Hall. Our annual Menorah lighting ceremony will be held on Fri., Dec.  11 at sunset. This tradition will continue in front of Village Hall. For both events, we encourage you to attend virtually, links will be posted on the Village Facebook page. If you plan on attending in person please stay socially distant for the safety and well-being of others.
