“We have several officers nearing retirement, some already announced. This is an opportunity for us to replenish our police department. They did come off of the civil service list and interviewed and these were the best candidates,” said Supervisor Sweeton.

In addition, the Board appointed Scott R. Diguillo, Matthew A. Laya, Michael P. Mazzella and Brian R. Pennella as part time Police Officers at the trainee rate pay of $24.74 per hour.

Also, during the meeting Councilman Floyd DeAngelo reported that for the month of November the Warwick Police Department responded to a total of 1,339 calls and for the month of December.

                   Visiting Elected Official

Visiting elected official Orange County Legislator Barry Cheney reported to the Board that all County residents should expect to receive their tax bills soon. He said that the good news is that taxes have only gone up just below the tax cap limit that was set for this year. Legislative meetings for the new year are currently being scheduled.

Supervisor Sweeton thanked Cheney for being part of a committee which oversees the Industrial Development Agency (IDA) that is in collaboration with a project at the former Mid- Orange Correctional Facility site.
