Village of Florida Sets Public Hearing for Glenmere Lake Fees

   The Village of Florida has set a date of Wed., Mar. 3 at 7:30 p.m. to hold a public hearing on fees for access to Glenmere Lake. Lake access will be free for Village of Florida residents but there will be a fee for visitors, which is to be determined. 

The public hearing will be held on Zoom. Meeting details are typically posted on the Village’s Facebook page the week of the meetings. The fees, if passed, will be the Village’s first local law of 2021. 

  The application for parking passes for the lake should go out next month, according to Trustee Alyssa Werner-Jahrling. The application will be found on the Village’s website. Village of Florida residents will receive two complimentary parking passes and for citizens of Warwick it will be $5 per pass. The new parking pass system will go into effect on May 1.

Upcoming Village Elections

The Village of Florida elections will be held on Tues., Mar. 16. Trustees Alyssa Werner-Jahrling and Shanna Sandor will both be seeking re-election. Village Mayor Daniel Harter Jr. appointed them both as Trustees late last year as replacements for two trustees that left office. Also running this year are Matthew Roach and John Mascis. Peter Barlet will be running unopposed for Judge. All open positions are for four -year terms

Sports Registration 

  Local sports registration for softball and little league are currently posted. Trustee Werner-Jahrling said she is excited for kids to be able to go out and play on the fields again. She also said that they are optimistic there will be a summer recreation program in the Village this year.

Cub Scout 44 is placing a bottle redemption bin behind the police station for those who want to donate cans or bottles. Additionally, the Girl Scouts will be holding their annual cookie sale via phone or digital order.
