VOLLEYBALL

Warwick’s volleyball team beat previously undefeated Minisink Valley five games on Sept. 22 at Warwick Valley High School.

TheWildcats won 10-25, 29-27, 25-19, 20-25, 15-12 to improve their record to 4-2 overall and 2-1 OCIAA.

Adriana Nicosia had 34 digs, Hallie Hansen had 16 assists, Erin Smith had 19 kills and three blocks and Kelly Nevins had four kills and three blocks.

That victory came after a close loss to undefeated Cornwall on Sept. 20. Unbeaten Cornwall won the match 26-24, 26-24, 25-19. Nicosia had 26 digs, with Smith adding seven kills, Charlene Petreshack six and Nevins five.

GIRLS SOCCER

Kat Finnerty scored two goals in each game to lead Warwick to a pair of victories. The Wildcats beat Monticello 10-0 on Sept. 18. Kaitlyn Larney, Sierra Blanton and Reese Girardi also each scored two goals for Warwick. Melina Garby and Samara Beauregard also had goals.

Larney, Finnerty, Girardi, Carly McLaughlin and Athena Lazina assisted on goals. Goalkeeper Emily Bujosa made four saves.

Warwick defeated Cornwall 5-1 on Sept. 20 as Finnerty added two goals.  Beauregard, Blanton and Girardi also scored. Bujosa has 14 saves.

BOYS SOCCER

Ezequiel Torres scored a goal in each game, but the Wildcats fell to Cornwall 5-2 and lost to undefeated Goshen 2-1. Richard Ostendorp also scored for the Wildcats. Goalie Dylan Gjersten had seven saves against Cornwall and 13 saves against Goshen.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Ciara Kelly set two season-best times while winning two individual events to lead Warwick to a 102-70 victory over Middletown on Sept. 18. Kelly finished first in the 200-yard individual medley in two minutes, 27.09 second. She also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.82 and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Sydney McSweeney won the 500 freestyle in a personal best time of 5:49.27. She also finished first in the 50 freestyle (27.07) and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Maeve Wright won the 100 freestyle in a season-best 1:01.26. She also placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:27.31) and was a member of the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Emma Predmore won the 200 freestyle (2:42.24) and was on the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Zoe Link was second in the 100 backstroke in a personal best 1:16.90 and was also on the winning 400 freestyle relay.

In a 111-70 loss to Pine Bush on Sept. 19, Sydney McSweeney won the 50 freestyle in (26.94) and the 100 freestyle in 58.55 and was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:55.26) and 400 freestyle relay (4:24.21) teams.

Wright, Lily Burrows and Chelsea Liang were also on the winning 200 relay team. Wright, Shaw and Lily Jocelyn swam on the winning 400 relay.

 Wright also finished second in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:08.18 and in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 1:03.23. Shaw placed second in the 200 individual medley in a personal-best time of 2:43.74. Burrows placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:30.66).

FOOTBALL

Latrell Willis caught two touchdown passes and rushed for another score to lead visiting Warwick to a 27-14 victory over Monticello.

Quarterback Wils Siebert threw for two touchdowns and ran for one to help Warwick take a 27-0 lead. The Wildcats host Minisink Valley at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29 at C. Ashley Morgan Field.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

On Sept. 19th, the girls cross country competed against James I. Neill in a hard fought race, just narrowly losing by a score of 25-34 at Bear Mountain State Park. Alyssa Dovico finished in first place in a time of 19 minutes, 20 seconds, over the 3.02-mile course.  Other strong performances were turned in by Trixie Wendell, who finished second for Warwick in 20:49, and Madison Olszewski (21:13).

The girls team traveled down to Jackson, N.J., and competed at the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational on Sept. 23rd.  The race was wild, but it did not feel like a Safari.  It commenced at the Hurricane Harbor Parking Lot, and was greatly affected by the rain and winds brought up the coastline by Hurricane Ophelia.

Dovico ran a gutsy race and finished eighth in the Girls Varsity B 5K Race in a time of 20:23.20.  Madison Olszewski competed in the same race, and earned a medal in a time of 22:22.05.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

The boys cross country team traveled to Letchworth State Park on Sept. 23 to compete in the John Izzo Invitational.  The team ran its best race of the season thus far, taking 15th out of 37 teams in the overall merge.

The team was led by freshman RJ Dovico (62nd in 17:54) and sophomore Jake Tannar (63rd in 17:56). Also running well for the Wildcats were: Jake Cosco  (18:06), Liam Astbury (18:07), Collin Freet  (18:35), AJ Kobrick (18:43), Riley Cross (18:48) and Jackson Spivak in (19:14).
