Isabella Astorino of Warwick named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week

Isabella Astorino, Hartwick, Sr., was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the week in Women’s Basketball, for games played from November 20 – November 26, following The Hawks first victory of the 2023-24 season.

Astorino excelled in Hartwick’s 82-60 win over SUNY Morrisville Mustangs on Tuesday evening, dropping a career-high 25 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor. She completed the double-double with 10 boards and nearly completed a triple-double as the forward tallied seven assists to go along with two steals and a block across 30 minutes of action.

Astorino’s athletic journey began at Warwick Valley High School, where she showcased her versatility as a student-athlete. A proud member of the Wildcats, Astorino actively participated in basketball, lacrosse, and soccer, leaving an indelible mark on each field of play.

In the realm of basketball, Astorino’s commitment and hard work did not go unnoticed. She earned the title of Most Improved Player in 2018, a testament to her dedication to personal and team growth. The following year, her exceptional defensive skills led to the honor of being named the Most Valuable Defensive Player in 2019. Isabella’s outstanding sportsmanship and leadership qualities were recognized with the prestigious Fran Higgins Award.

Her prowess on the basketball court extended beyond individual accolades. Astorino secured a place in the All-Section Top 50 in both 2019 and 2020, solidifying her status as a key player in the regional basketball scene.

In the field of lacrosse, Astorino showcased her talent by earning Second Team All-Star recognition in 2017 and 2019. Her contributions played a pivotal role in her team’s success, notably assisting in securing section titles in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Beyond the athletic arena, Astorino balanced her commitment to sports with academic excellence, earning membership in the National Honor Society. Her well-rounded approach to high school life reflects a dedication to both intellectual and physical pursuits.

Astorino’s exceptional journey through high school athletics is further highlighted by her recognition as a two-time BCANY All-Star. These accolades underscore not only her athletic prowess but also her commitment to sportsmanship and teamwork.

As Astorino transitioned to the collegiate level at Hartwick, she carried with her a rich tapestry of achievements and experiences from Warwick Valley High School. Isabella’s story is one of resilience, leadership, and a passion for excelling both on and off the field.
