Marquis Freeman Previously Pled Guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Marquis Freeman, 40, of Newburgh, was sentenced in Orange County Court to four (4) years in prison to be followed by three (3) years post-release supervision relative to his guilty plea to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. The plea constitutes the defendant’s sixth (6) felony drug conviction.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, on June 12, 2025 at approximately 6:05 a.m., members of law enforcement observed the defendant, who they knew had an active warrant, at a location in the City of Newburgh. During a search incident to his arrest on the warrant, the police recovered a quantity of heroin and other bags of cocaine, as well as United States currency. At the plea proceedings, Freeman admitted to possessing cocaine with the intent to sell it.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Newburgh Police for their investigation which led to the arrest of Freeman. District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the New York State Police and the Town of Newburgh Police for their assistance with the investigation of the defendant.
“Dangerous narcotics are frequently pushed into our communities by the criminal actions of repeat drug dealers,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “Law enforcement will continue to stand in the face of this ever-present threat. We remain committed to holding drug dealers accountable for their crimes and for the tragic consequences we see play out every day from the use and abuse of narcotics.”
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Cassidy Turi.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
