Alton Junior Faces 9 Years in Prison
Orange County District Attorney announced that Alton Junior, 42, of Newburgh, pled guilty in Orange County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree and Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Under the plea agreement announced on the record at the time that Junior pled guilty, it is expected that he will be sentenced to nine (9) years in prison to be followed by five (5) years post-release supervision when he is sentenced on December 22, 2026.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, as part of a long-term investigation into narcotics trafficking in and around the City of Newburgh by the Orange County Drug Task Force, members of the Task Force executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Junior’s residence in the City of Newburgh on July 7, 2026. During the execution of the warrant, law enforcement recovered over four (4) ounces of cocaine, over a half ounce of fentanyl, two loaded pistols, a digital scale and narcotics packaging materials. Also recovered was over $5,000 in United States currency. At the plea proceedings, Junior admitted to unlawfully possessing in excess of four (4) ounces of cocaine and attempting to possess a loaded firearm.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the Orange County Drug Task Force for their investigation which led to the arrest of Junior. District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the City of Newburgh Police Department, Orange County Special Operations Group, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and investigators and prosecutors in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office who assisted with the investigation.
“By disrupting the flow of narcotics into our communities, proactive law enforcement investigations bring dangerous offenders to justice while making and keeping our streets safe,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “These deadly drugs are often found with illegally possessed firearms and we see firsthand the real and present dangers they pose. My office, together with our law enforcement partners, remain committed to holding those offenders responsible for pushing these poisons. I commend the dedicated work of the police and prosecutors assigned to this case.”
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Alexis Gregory.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
