The Orange County Sheriff’s Office proudly announces the graduation of seven K-9 teams from its rigorous K-9 Patrol School. These teams, representing six law enforcement agencies across the region, completed 16 weeks of intensive training, during which they learned obedience, agility, tracking, evidence recovery, criminal apprehension, and handler protection. They are now officially certified and ready to serve.
The training was led by Deputy Michael Muller, Deputy Vincent Iannuzzi, Deputy Kevin Halsey, and City of Newburgh Lt. Ricardo Rivera.
The following handler-K-9 teams completed the program:
- Orange County Sheriff’s Office: Deputy Michael Muller& K-9 Mako
- Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office: Deputy Matthew Robbins & K-9 Doug
- Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office: Deputy John Wagner & K-9 Lea
- Rockland County Sheriff’s Office: Officer Thomas Zinna & K-9 Stewart
- Town of Woodbury Police Department: Officer Dominick Gonzalez & K-9 TJ
- Village of Monroe Police Department: Officer Kyle Rooney & K-9 Roscoe
- Town of Ramapo Police Department: Officer Michael Simpson & K-9 Otto
Now certified, these highly trained teams will help protect our county and their respective communities. They will assist in locating missing and endangered people, detecting illegal drugs and explosives, tracking suspects, and assisting deputies in dangerous situations.
Thank you to my staff for their dedication and support of these handlers and their K-9 partners. Our K-9 Unit continues to set the standard for professionalism and preparedness. I also extend my gratitude to the families of these handlers, who have supported them every step of the way.
Today’s graduation represents an additional resource for your safety. These K-9 teams stand ready to serve with courage, professionalism, and loyalty. They will be a visible reminder that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting Orange County.
