Greenwood Lake Man Jailed on Child Sexual Abuse Charges

GREENWOOD LAKE — A Greenwood Lake man is being held in the Orange County Jail following his arrest on charges alleging the sexual abuse and exploitation of a child earlier this year.

The Village of Greenwood Lake Police Department announced that Matthew T. Morton, 42, was arrested on Thursday, July 30, following an investigation into allegations involving the sexual exploitation and abuse of a child.

According to police, the alleged incidents occurred over a three-day period between April 20 and April 23, 2026, in the Village of Greenwood Lake.

Morton has been charged with:

  • Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance;
  • Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child;
  • Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree; and
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the investigation, including the age of the alleged victim or the circumstances surrounding the case, citing the sensitive nature of the allegations involving a child.

Following his arrest, Morton was arraigned in Village of Greenwood Lake Justice Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail pending further court proceedings.

As of press time, no additional charges had been announced, and it was not immediately clear whether the case will be presented to an Orange County grand jury.

The investigation remains with the Village of Greenwood Lake Police Department.
