Florida School District JROTC Cadets Earn Emergency Certifications

Local News

The cadets of S.S. Seward Institute’s Spartan Battalion received strategic training for emergency situations on a field trip in late September.

Cadets visited the Orange County Emergency Services Center and participated in training and certification for CPR, first aid and automated external defibrillator (AED) use.

The cadets also learned how dispatchers receive, process and respond to emergency calls, and the process of emergency operations in Orange County.

Seward now has 55 JROTC cadets certified in CPR, first aid and AED use.

JROTC Senior Army Instructor Michael Washington believes his cadets provide “our school and community with valuable life-saving skills and strengthen our commitment to leadership, preparedness, and service.”

He also said his cadets have learned crucial life skills for school and beyond.

“This training gave our cadets more than just a certification,” he said. “It gave them the confidence and skills to potentially save a life. All of the cadets were engaged throughout the experience, learned a great deal about emergency response, and gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of preparedness and service to their school and community.”
