During the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, members of the Sheriff’s Office partnered with United Way to honor the victims and first responders of 9/11. We aim to take positive action within the community by performing good deeds and giving back locally.
David Paine and Jay Winuk, who lost his brother Glenn in the collapse of the World Trade Center, believed that something good should come from such unimaginable loss. They set out to reclaim the day by promoting 9.11 Day, which focuses on transforming the darkest day in American history into a day of doing good.
I, along with members of the Sheriff’s Office, visited the Hudson Valley Regional Food Bank to sort and package goods for distribution to those in need. My goal is to support neighbors, strengthen the community, and make a positive difference wherever possible.
September 11th is a day we will never forget. It was the worst day in American history. We must recognize the courage and strength of those who answered the call to serve and made the ultimate sacrifice. We must come together as a community, not only to remember but to carry forward the spirit of service, compassion, and unity that emerged from that tragic day. Serving others is one of the most meaningful ways we can honor their memory.”
I encourage community members to embrace the spirit of 9.11 Day by helping neighbors, volunteering locally, or finding other meaningful ways to serve.
